Homie Smart

Up to 28 Plants

A small outdoor space, turned into a working food garden.

Homie Smart turns a balcony corner into a working food garden. One sealed reservoir feeds up to 28 herbs and greens from the same flow, so there are no scattered pots and no soil to clean up.

It assembles in about thirty minutes, no tools, then asks for a few minutes a week. Vegardi handles the rest, telling you what to do and when from first seed to harvest, while the smart plug keeps the pump on schedule and alerts you if it ever stops.

Dimensions

Assembled: 93 cm (W) × 69 cm (D) × 103 cm (H), about 36.6 × 27.2 × 40.6 inches. The floor footprint is roughly the size of a small side table, so it fits a balcony corner without taking over the space.

The 40-liter insulated reservoir sits at the base of the system and folds flat for storage. It ships in a single carton, 91.5 × 24 × 28.5 cm, about 11.8 kg.

What's in the box

Four NFT channels with removable covers, the front and rear legs, the 40-liter insulated reservoir, the DC pump and 18V transformer, the feed pipe set with flow valve, the drain pipe set, a float valve for optional auto top-up, 28 net cups with neoprene collars, and a level tool.

Plus the full sprouting kit (propagator tray with 40 sites, LED grow lights with timers, 40 peat plugs, seed markers), five practical booklets, the smart plug, and 12 months of Vegardi Premium. Seeds and nutrients are not included, so you choose your own.

Basic requirements

A level, stable outdoor spot, balcony, patio, rooftop or small yard, with at least three hours of direct sun a day; more sun gives better results. A standard power outlet within reach (the pump draws about 8 watts).

The smart plug needs 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi to send fault alerts and let you adjust the schedule from the app. The pump keeps running the schedule you set even without a connection.

Optional: connect the float valve to a tap and the reservoir tops up on its own. Homie is built for outdoor sun; it can also grow under strong enough grow lighting if you provide your own.

Warranty & support

Every Homie Smart is covered by a two-year limited warranty, with unlimited access to NatureTech growing support and the in-app diagnostic assistant.

First pre-order shipments begin June 2026. 30-day return policy from the delivery date; returned systems must include all original components in resalable condition.

Seeds and nutrients are the only things you bring. You choose your own.

Watercolor and ink illustration of the Homie Smart water cycle: a sealed reservoir and pump feed four channels through the feed line, and the solution recirculates back.

The growing method

One reservoir. Four channels, always fed.

A thin film of nutrient water runs past the roots and circles back. The plants get a steady feed; you get a clear routine.

What Homie handles

  • One sealed 40-liter reservoir, feeding all four channels from the same flow, kept dark so algae and pests stay out.
  • A recirculating film over the roots, oxygen-rich and reused rather than poured away.
  • A pump on a schedule, watched by the smart plug, so if the flow ever stops the app tells you before the roots do.

What you handle

  • Refill and check, about 5 to 15 minutes a week. Top up the water by hand, or let the float valve do it from a tap, and check the nutrient mix and pH are where Vegardi says they should be.
  • Plant, watch and pick. Start seedlings in the sprouting tray, set them into the collars, then harvest leaves as you need them.
  • Make the calls a grower makes. Which tasks are right for the exact plants you have grown? What to do when something is not working? You and Vegardi work it out together.

Made to keep growing

Quality and simplicity, built to perform.

01

The structure

Stands on its own. Goes where you go.

The channels and legs lock into one freestanding structure, balanced on its own front and rear legs. No wall, no drilling, no holes. Slide it to follow the light, move it aside, or fold it down and take it with you.

02

The channels

Covers that lift right off.

Four professional NFT channels, about 85 cm each, in food-grade, UV-resistant, BPA-free plastic. The covers lift right off to check the roots, prune, and clean between cycles, with no tools and nothing to take apart.

03

The reservoir

Insulated liters, weeks between refills.

An insulated 40-liter reservoir holds the feed steady through a hot day and stretches the first refill to around three weeks. Sealed, so spills stay in and insects stay out, and it folds flat between seasons.

04

One shared flow

One flow, twenty-eight plants, one routine.

Instead of twenty-eight pots each begging for their own attention, every plant shares the same nutrient flow and the same care. Soil-free, pesticide-free, and giving back a steady, clean harvest.

Set up · Grow · Harvest

Step 01

Stand it up

Channels, legs and reservoir click together by hand, with no tools and no second pair of hands. Pick a spot with a few hours of sun and it is standing.

~30 min

Before you start

A spot, some sun, a plug.

What you need

  • 3+ hours of direct sun

Outdoors, daily. More sun gives better growth.

  • A power outlet

Within reach. The pump draws about 8 watts.

  • A level surface

Balcony, patio, rooftop or a small yard.

Nice to have

  • A nearby tap

Connect the float valve for hands-off top-ups.

  • 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi

For fault alerts and schedule changes in the app.

What you can grow

Built for greens and herbs. Open to more.

Homie is at its best with the greens and herbs you cook with most. Vegardi walks you through each one, from first seed to first harvest.

Your confidence layer

You are never growing on your own.

Two things work quietly alongside you: a plug that handles safety in the background, and an app that handles knowledge in the foreground.

The smart plug

Safety in the background.

It runs the pump on the schedule you set, and keeps running it even without a connection. When it is online, it watches the flow and alerts you the moment circulation stops, before exposed roots become a problem.

The Vegardi app

Knowledge in the foreground.

It reads your location, light and crops, then tells you what to do and when, from first seed to harvest. When something looks off, you photograph it and add a quick note, then get a likely cause and a clear next step.

Weekly Maintenance

Keep your nutrient solution balanced.

This short but essential maintenance helps keep the nutrient solution optimal. It includes refilling the reservoir, adjusting EC/PPM, and balancing pH according to app guidelines.

What you'll need
EC meter / PPM meter
Digital pH meter / Chemical pH test kit / pH test stripsDigital pH meter is recommended; chemical test kit or litmus paper strips also work.
pH Up
pH Down
Hydroponic nutrientsMust be a hydroponic-specific formulation. Regular garden fertilizer is not suitable.
Fresh waterA water filter (RO) is needed only if your starting tap water EC is high.
Measuring cupFor pouring and measuring larger volumes.
SyringeFor precise drop-by-drop measurements.
Safety notes
Never pour pH Up and pH Down directly into each other. Always add to the reservoir water, one at a time, and wait between adjustments.
Wear gloves and eye protection when handling the concentrated nutrient and pH bottles. Once diluted in the reservoir, the solution is safe to contact briefly.
Do not touch the water while the pump is running. Disconnect the transformer before extended maintenance.
💡Best practices
Add nutrient concentrate before adjusting pH. Nutrients shift pH on their own, so adjusting first wastes your work.
Adjust in small increments (1 to 2 ml for a 20 to 40 L reservoir). Wait a few minutes between doses and re-measure before adding more.
What to do
0 of 5 done
1Step 1 of 5
Refill water tank
Top up your reservoir with fresh water to compensate for what plants drank and evaporated during the week. Stop about 5 cm from the top.
Step done
2Step 2 of 5
Measure EC/PPM
Rinse the EC/PPM meter probe, insert it into the reservoir, and wait for the reading to stabilize. Write down the number before adjusting anything.
Step done
3Step 3 of 5
Adjust EC/PPM
Add a little hydroponic nutrient concentrate, stir gently, and measure again. Repeat until you reach the recommended range.
Step done
4Step 4 of 5
Measure pH
Rinse the pH probe, insert it into the reservoir, and wait for the reading to stabilize. Most hydroponic crops thrive between 5.5 and 6.5.
Step done
5Step 5 of 5
Adjust pH
If pH is too high, add pH Down in 1 to 2 ml increments. If too low, add pH Up the same way. Stir, wait, re-measure.

Growing with us

Nothing beats seeing it for yourself.

Real Homie gardens out in the world, and what the people growing in them have to say.

Honest answers

Questions growers ask first.

What is Homie?

Homie is a freestanding NFT vertical system for growing 28 plants in a small outdoor space. It uses a water-based nutrient flow instead of soil, producing clean, fast-growing herbs, greens and vegetables on your balcony, patio or backyard.

How does it work?

A pump circulates nutrient-rich water from a 40-liter reservoir through four growing channels on a set schedule. Plant roots sit in the flowing nutrient film and absorb what they need. The water returns to the reservoir in a closed loop, so nothing is wasted.

What is included?

Homie is a complete system. The box includes everything needed for a full growing cycle from seed to harvest: four channels with removable covers, front and rear legs, insulated reservoir, pump, smart plug, float valve, sprouting kit with LED lights, 40 peat plugs, 28 net cups with neoprene collars, five educational booklets, a level tool and one year of Vegardi Premium.

How hard is installation? Can renters install it?

No installation needed in the traditional sense. Homie stands on its own legs on any level surface. No wall mounting, no drilling, no tools. One person assembles it in 15-30 minutes. Renters can use it freely and take it with them when they move.

Will I know exactly what to do each week?

Yes. The Vegardi app builds a profile of your setup, your location and your crops, then sends you personalized reminders and guidance. It tells you what to do and when. If something does not look right, the built-in grow advisor helps you diagnose the issue and suggests what to try next.

Does it smell? Will it attract flies or mosquitoes indoors?

Homie is a soil-free, sealed system designed for outdoor use. The reservoir is fully enclosed and insulated, which blocks light and prevents insect access. A properly maintained hydroponic system does not produce odor.

Warranty, returns, what if I change my mind?

Homie comes with a 2-year warranty covering manufacturing defects. You have 30 days from delivery to return it if it is not right for you. You can also cancel your reservation anytime before shipping.

What happens if my Wi-Fi goes down?

The pump runs on its set schedule through the smart plug even without Wi-Fi. You will not lose pump function. The only feature that requires active Wi-Fi is receiving failure alerts and app-based guidance. Your plants will not be affected by a temporary Wi-Fi outage.

How is Homie different from Wally?

Wally is a wall-mounted system that uses Shallow Water Culture and is designed to transform a vertical wall surface into a productive food garden, both indoors and outdoors. Homie is a freestanding system that uses NFT and is designed specifically for outdoor spaces like balconies and patios. It requires no wall mounting, no drilling, and no tools. If you have a wall you want to use, choose Wally. If you have a balcony corner or patio space with sunlight, choose Homie.

Is Homie only for outdoor use?

Yes. Homie is designed for outdoor environments where it receives direct natural sunlight. There is no dedicated lighting kit for Homie. If you need an indoor growing system, Wally Smart with an optional grow light kit is the recommended choice.

What can I grow in Homie?

Homie is optimized for herbs and leafy greens: basil, cilantro, parsley, mint, dill, sage, thyme, oregano, lettuce varieties, spinach, kale, arugula, chard, bok choy, celery, green onions, and many more. These crops grow fastest, produce the most consistent results, and require the least maintenance in this system.

Can I grow tomatoes, peppers or cucumbers?

Yes. Fruiting vegetables can be grown successfully in Homie, particularly during summer when sunlight is abundant. They require more attention than leafy crops: periodic root pruning through the removable channel covers, external trellising or support for climbing varieties, and slightly higher nutrient concentrations. They take longer to mature but deliver satisfying harvests.

How many plants can I grow?

Homie supports up to 28 plants across four channels, with 7 planting sites per channel spaced 10 cm apart. For small herbs, you can sometimes place two seedlings in a single net cup to increase density.

How long until first harvest?

Fast-growing leafy greens and herbs can often be harvested within 3 to 5 weeks from transplanting seedlings into the system. Fruiting crops take longer, typically 8 to 12 weeks depending on the variety and growing conditions. Because nutrients and water are constantly available at the root zone, plants generally grow noticeably faster than in soil.

How much time does weekly maintenance take?

About 5 to 15 minutes per week. The routine includes checking the water level, topping up if needed, and checking nutrient concentration and pH. The Vegardi app reminds you when each task is due.

How often do I need to refill the water?

The 40-liter reservoir typically lasts about 3 weeks before the first refill under moderate conditions. In hot weather with mature plants, you may need to top up weekly. If you connect the included float valve to a nearby water tap, refilling happens automatically.

What does the smart plug do?

The smart plug connects to your Wi-Fi and controls the pump power schedule. During initial setup, you define when the pump runs through the Vegardi app. From that point, the plug executes the schedule automatically. If the pump stops unexpectedly, the plug sends an alert through the app so you can respond before plants are affected.

What does the Vegardi app do?

The app builds a profile of your system based on your location, light conditions, and the crops you are growing. It then generates a personalized care routine with reminders for topping up water, refreshing nutrients, cleaning, and replanting. If something looks wrong with a plant, you can describe the issue and receive a diagnosis with a recommended action. It also provides ongoing guidance for planting, spacing, pruning, and harvesting.

Is Homie safe around children?

Yes. The pump operates on a low-voltage 18V DC power supply, which is safe for residential use around children. All growing surfaces are made from food-grade, BPA-free materials. There are no sharp exposed edges, hot surfaces, or chemical hazards in normal operation.

Where do you ship?

We ship across the United States and Canada. Shipping is free on all Homie Smart orders.

How do I reach support?

You can contact NatureTech by email at info@nthydroponics.com or by phone at +1 (647) 887-7870. If you are using the Vegardi app, you can also receive guidance through the built-in grow advisor or send a message with a photo for faster troubleshooting.
